🚗 If Stopped by Local or State Police While Driving

• Stay calm and respectful. Keep your hands visible and avoid sudden movements.
• Driver must identify themselves with name, date of birth, and address. Present a valid driver’s license if you have one.
• You have the right to remain silent. Say: “I wish to remain silent and not answer further questions.”
• Passengers may ask if they are free to leave. If yes, calmly walk away.
• Do not consent to a vehicle search unless officers have probable cause or your permission.
• If arrested, provide only your name, date of birth, and address. Do NOT answer immigration-related questions.

Q: Should I show my Matricula Consular or immigration case receipts?
A: No. These can alert police or immigration officers that you are undocumented.

Q: What if I only have an expired driver’s license?
A: An expired license is not valid and won’t help avoid arrest.
